A man who was shot by Chattanooga Police on Saturday has been released from the hospital and is facing several criminal charges, including attempted first-degree murder.

Joel Deon Harris, 50, is also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, theft under $500, resisting arrested and aggravated assault on a police officer.

The incident happened at 404 Tunnel Blvd. after two city officers responded on a disorder call.

One officer approached Harris in the parking lot of the apartments. Police said Harris refused to obey verbal commands and began to flee on foot.

The officer chased Harris into an interior hallway of one of the apartment buildings.

While in the hallway, police said Harris pulled a black firearm out of a bag he was carrying. As the two officers exited the hallway, police said he fired a shot in the direction of one of the officers.

The officer returned fire as Harris fled across a grassy area. The other  officer then found that Harris was coming in his direction. Harris raised his gun and fired at least one shot at that officer.

The officer returned fire, striking Harris in the leg.

Police said Harris continued to hold the gun while sitting in the parking lot, though he was ordered to drop the gun.

Harris finally threw the gun onto the ground and was taken into custody.

There were four spent shell casings recovered at the scene that matched the 9mm gun Harris was carrying.

The gun was  reported stolen on May 29, 2017.

Police said Harris has multiple convictions for domestic offenses and is prohibited from carrying a gun.

Roy Exum: Who Is This ‘New Voice’?

It’s easy for me to say that I either know, or know about, almost every person running in November for the state legislature. He just turned out the best political aspirant I have had a conversation with in the last ... (click for more)
